Q. What is the subconscious mind and how does it affect my weight? A. According to William Hewitt, “the subconscious mind is like an obedient servant
-it just does what it is told to do. The subconscious mind doesn’t think, reason, or rationalize. It only adheres to instructions. Conversely, your conscious mind does think, reason, and rationalize- and often argues against what you want. This is why the conscious mind needs to be relaxed and quieted so it won’t counter what you are instructing your subconscious mind to do.”
Through guided visualizations, you can use your imagination to modify your internal experience. As you change how you perceive things and think about things, your feelings and behaviors transform. This, in turn, will help you meet your goals. For example, “if you program yourself to be average, that will be your reality. Using guided visualization, however, you can bring to fruition a very powerful reprogramming and change your behavior and attitudes.” You present an ideal goal, such as stress- free living to your subconscious. The subconscious then materializes this suggestion into reality- “thoughts become things”. With the help of creative visualization, hypnosis taps your subconscious through imagery or asking it for ideas. Once you have reached a relaxed, suggestible state of mind, you can consider a problem and create a solution. Q. I’ve tried everything else, why will this program work for me? A. More than likely other programs, diets or fads that you (and others) have tried in the past were either too restrictive or solely focused on will power. No lasting change will come from will power alone. You can not “white knuckle” it through the rest of your life feeling deprived and restricted. This will lead to resentment and even more feelings of failure and inadequacy. Q. I’ve lost weight in the past and then put it back on. Why is this different and how will I keep the weight off? A. (Please also refer to question #5 above) This program is different because it addresses the subconscious mind and makes mental changes which leads to lasting behavioral changes. What you have used in the past more than likely just had you use “will power”, restriction and deprivation as a means to weight loss. Q. How can guided visualization help me to lose weight and keep it off? A. You may very well not remember these comments on a conscious level, but your subconscious mind stores these memories. Q. Isn’t weight loss about your genes more than anything else? A. You may get your blue eyes or brown hair or tall height from your parents but when it comes to genes of your body mass, much of it is about lifestyle choices, your mental programming [thoughts] and behaviors and childhood rearing (often referred to as nurture). Many people believe they have “fat genes” or that because their parents are overweight then they too are destined to be overweight for their whole lives. This is simply not true!
